If you are going to do it right, do it tight! Let those fingers fly across the frets! Positively energetic and in your face, metal can turn most any song better, just look at this example.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnFBhAietac" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnFBhAietac</a>

So let's give it up to metal music.

i just recently got into Metallica again. Disposable Heros is one of the greatest songs ever!
And a recommendation would be Taking Dawn. They are from Las Vegas and they ROCK!

Darkest Hour

Arch Enemy - fave female lead singer

Austrian Death Machine - from the lead singer of As I Lay Dying comes an all metal joke band that sings songs about Arnold schwarzenegger but the twist is that it is actually really good.

Bleeding Through

Cannibal Corpse

Converge

Dethklok - yea they are a joke band as well but damn Brendon Small can play the guitar.

Pantera

Nora

The Haunted - self titled

and yea i like Dragonforce they are cheesy as fk but when it comes to solos BOOM!

Despite enjoying metal, I don't listen to many metal bands. Ones I make for enjoys:

Rhapsody of Fire
Otep
Arch Enemy
Dethklok
Maximum the Hormone

Otherwise I enjoy all metal, as long as there's some bit of creativity involved.

I love all types of metals, but I'm leaning a lot towards the prog sides like

Between the Buried and Me
The Human Abstract
Baroness
Protest the Hero
Mastodon (Crack the Skye so GOOD HUUUGGGGNNNN)

Also, this is the best, especially the end.

Baroness is from my home town (and the one I live in) of Savannah, GA. I'm glad they don't suck :P Mastodon is from GA too and oh man do I love them. I can't even remember how many times I've listened to Leviathan and CTS is pretty awesome too.

I'm a relative newcomer to the genre, but PTH is the only one your list I have heard about but not listened to. I think I'll put them on my to-do list.

I fucking love metal. It takes about about 2/3 of my music collection, and seems to be slowly encroaching on that last third. Lately I've been obsessed with stuff from the early/mid 90's:

Dissection - Blackened death from Sweden. I'd regard this album as a high water mark in metal.
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNOVgsYqsZk" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNOVgsYqsZk</a>

3rd and the Mortal - Fantastic doom metal later turned experimental. This is possibly the best use of female vocals in doom.
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKKcPqE20bs" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKKcPqE20bs</a>

Master's Hammer - Black metal from the Czech Republic. This especially cheesy video has the bonus of containing some three stooges-like antics around the 1:30 mark.
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99oVD891A6M" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99oVD891A6M</a>

Blind Guardian - German power metal with a thrash edge.

I liked power metal for a long time, stuff like Helloween, Edguy, Avantaisa, Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray, Rhapsody of Fire, etc.  I listen to it less these days in favor of more classic straightforward metal, like Iron Maiden or Dio (which are still kinda power-metally).  Actually, I still always have time to listen to Blind Guardian \m/

Also, Lordi.  They look like some insane Finnish death metal band, but they play mostly hard rock.  They put on a killer live show, don't take themselves too seriously, and really know how to make a music video.  Enjoy
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkw4jhDE1eQ" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkw4jhDE1eQ</a>

EDIT: someone mentioned Dethklok, and they rule most mightily!

I mostly like Deathcore and Metalcore. I like some of the melodic stuff too.

Oceano is fucking amazing.
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5pAODfb_c0" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5pAODfb_c0</a>

For Today is from my hometown. I've seen them play about 10 times.
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ov8Jnh5l_bc" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ov8Jnh5l_bc</a>

Chelsea Grin is also really good live.
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuInValvORE" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuInValvORE</a>

I even like the more "Scene Kid" type bands like The Devil Wears Prada and Asking Alexandria.
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFny8FqinJk" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFny8FqinJk</a>
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dt_ZMWF7ei4" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dt_ZMWF7ei4</a>

Also Who can hate a band named after the Mortal Combat blood code? (abacabb)

I love metal. It's easily my favorite genre. I see some have already posted a couple that I love. I don't think I've ever met someone else online who posted Disarmonia Mundi. That's awesome. Anyway, some of my favorites are...

Lamb of God
Pantera
Whitechapel
Between the Buried and Me
DevilDriver
The Faceless

I've been getting into a bit of these:

Mushroomhead
Opeth
Gojira
Dimmu Borgir

Basically, I like any type of metal with a melody.

Opeth really has not only what you might call "typical" death metal songs, but they really have produced such fine work with other songs (such as Windowpane.)

I enjoy Dimmu Borgir's melody, but sadly, my favorite song (The Sacrilegous Scorn) isn't on iTunes!

EDIT: I don't know how I could have forgotten one of my favorite bands, Ensiferum.
They're a Finnish folk metal band, and they're kind of like a SLIGHTLY tuned down Amon Amarth, but their guitar players are excellent, and the music is just plain awesome. Each song is a masterpiece in itself, but if I had to pick one to start with, I'd choose "Iron" or "Raised By The Sword."
