Trip Hop/Experimental
« on: 05/ 27/ 2010, 04:01:07 PM »
Seeing as how the majority of the bands I post here are either Trip Hop or Experimental, and I noticed that I wasn't the only one who enjoyed this type of music, I figured I'd make a thread. Also, Xi's thread made me want to make this.

Trip Hop and Experimental can be two different things, but they're so similar that I decided one thread would suffice for both. Post your favourites. We can make for shares.

Trip Hop's quite possibly my favourite genre. Good job Maverick.

After looking them up, most definitely! Loving them, actually.

I've seen them listed as "Acid Jazz", so I was unsure. Lovage are about the only group I listen to of this kind of genre, mostly because I'm not into sampling all that much. Listen to a little bit of Avalanche every now and then, but I much prefer more raw sounds using proper instruments.

...

But I like Nine Inch Nails, so I don't really have a point.

I'm a big fan of sampling. Though I like sampling more if the musician created the sample from scratch.

I made a beat out of a clip from the movie Visitor Q once it was the hotness (well at least to my ears).

I don't really like how experimental and trip-hop are bundled together on here, I think of experimental as more of a technique rather than a genera- but I do love me some trip hop and I actually make a lot of music that is experimental music by nature.

Here's an experimental tune I've made recently, just thought I'd share since you guys all seem to be in good taste and I'm always looking out for more tips.

Outsider Joe- Just Before Moving Day-DEMO Small | Large

anyone else on here use some of this equipment?
my set up- KAOSS pad (KP3), Groovebox (MC-505) & Dr.Sample (SP-202)

I'll have to listen to that when im home. Im not in tune to making experimental im more inclined to making hip-hop but i have the following at my disposal right now.

MPC 1000
Electribe EMX-1
Midines
Rane TTM56
Vestax Controller One Turntable (this is one crazy fucking turntable)
Korg KP3
Couple of cheap compressors
POD Line 6 Rack for guitar
M-Audio Axiom 61
Korg Micro X

I want to add just a few more pieces
Jomox M-Base 11
Electron Machinedrum (have had one before and loved it)
Virus TI 2 Polar (fucking expensive and i'd probably be overwhelmed but i want one so damn bad).

I run all of my stuff into logic studio, i have ableton but just haven't gotten around to using anything.

Well, yeah. I think I worded it weird in the intro. When I refer to Experimental in this context I'm talking about the down-tempo stuff like Boards of Canada or Tycho, that has a similar feeling to Trip Hop. Not really sure what else to call the "genre" other than down-tempo experimental, but adding the "down-tempo" just makes the title long. XD
